Eligibility and Quality Ratings

To enroll in DPP as a preschool provider, you need to be licensed by the State of Colorado and agree to participate in a three-part quality improvement system that includes: an introduction to quality orientation, quality rating, and the development of a quality improvement plan.

DPP contracts with Qualistar Colorado who conducts the quality rating process for the providers who want to become part of the program. As part of the Qualistar rating process, providers who are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) or the National Association of Family Child Care (NAFCC) will receive an automatic rating of a Star Three if you acquire a NAFCC rating (2 year status) or a Star Four if you acquire a NAEYC accreditation (5 year status) after October 2006.

Benefits of Becoming a DPP Provider

  • Quality rating provides your business with a recognized quality certification.
  • Classrooms who participate in the quality-rating system are eligible to receive support for coaching and professional development for teachers.
  • Higher awareness for your program through increased exposure in various marketing opportunities that identify you as a quality provider.
  • Increased enrollment through Denver Preschool Program referrals.
  • Added value to your customers through tuition credits awarded to parents enrolled in your program. The amount of the tuition credits will vary according to family income and size as well as the preschool's quality rating.
  • Increased funds through parents that do not wish to receive the tuition credit from DPP and have the option to donate it back to their children’s provider.

Application

All licensed preschool providers - for-profit, non-profit, public, private, and regardless of location - are eligible to participate. You will need to review and complete a provider agreement. Please contact the DPP Coordinator at Qualistar Colorado at (303) 339-6800 if you have any questions.

Tuition Credits for Families

Parents receive a tuition credit based on family income, family household size and the quality rating of their chosen preschool provider. In order to enroll, parents need to complete the DPP application (available in both English and Spanish) and provide verification of child’s age, proof of Denver residency, and documentation of your most current month of income. DPP can also provide on-site orientations for your parents and/or staff.

Feel free to call the Denver Preschool Program at 303.595.4DPP(4377) if you should have any questions.
